I read this book in a few sittings on my Kindle and I will surely read it again when I sit down to write my first screenplay.I am new to this type of writing but a decent writer so I am not intimidated by it. Nick's advice is a lot like Nike's "Just Do It" campaign and I agree that 99% of doing anything is just that, sitting down and doing it vs. talking about doing it (i.e., writing it for our purposes) or doing anything but actual writing.
I never wanted to make index cards in the first place and do not plan to for my efforts and let the chips fall where they may.
I loved his advice on going for writing if that is what you really want in life and not letting anyone stop you, especially your own fears, self-imposed limitations, or other perceived barriers.
However, this marvelous missive is far more than a simple "start writing" kick-in-the-pants; the book provides an evenhanded and objective view of other strategies, the author's real world experience, and other useful tips and tricks, plus lots of encouragement.
I believe that anyone who works hard enough can learn to write, can learn to write well, and (with my feelings validated by this book) can write a screenplay.
Since reading this book, I have read lots of screenplays to get the form down and I hope to start my screenplay very soon.

Cut The Crap And Write That Damn Screenplay! Nicholas Iandolo 9780557537280 Books Reviews
First off, save your money. There were quite a few things that stood out as sub-par (unfortunately after making the mistake of purchasing) about this book. Upon closer inspection, the cover art is not professionally done. Mark of someone trying to make a quick buck off self-publishing. Secondly, the majority of raving 5-star reviews on have rated this book and this book only, leaving one to believe its a cheap endorsement for the author by friends or family. Lastly, the book itself. I wasted the money on this, and sorely regret it. This amateur has no new advice to offer the screenwriting community, and within only a few pages into the book one quickly recognizes it is merely a regurgitation of writing and anti-procrastination maxims. DO NOT BUY. Shame on this writer for believing this book is in some way helpful. should enhance their screening process.
This is the third or fourth screenwriting guide I've read, and there was absolutely nothing new. There were numerous grammatical errors, that went so far as to distract me from the rest of the book. The author was condescending. I really wish I could get my money back on this book. It did not help me to write a screenplay, it just made me mad. And I'm wondering if the author has ever written a screenplay that was sold, because the examples he used in the book sounded like horrible, horrible movies. Completely craptascular (his movie ideas, not the book. Although the book was pretty awful, too.)
If you are writing your screenplay but are now stuck, bogged down in details, or you've lost your nerve, this guide book will get you going again! I am speaking from personal experience. I'm just about to finish my first screenplay, thanks to Nick and his shared wisdom.
I had the honor and pleasure of actually taking a class with Nicholas Iandolo. This book is where you should start in learning how to get a screenplay down on paper. Don't talk about it, don't say "I'm gonna do this thing..." Just do it! I wrote an 89-page screenplay in 2 weeks because I have wanted to find a way to write a screenplay for years, now. I have read a few books on screenwriting, and they all make it sound so mysterious and impossible to conquer, that one is led to believe that it's not a doable project! It IS doable! Nick's book makes it doable and cuts through all the bs that everyone else layers on in thick gobs! Nick tells you look, this is the straight and narrow of it. Start with these basics and write the thing! Don't worry about the other stuff because you can always go back to that later and polish it up! GET IT DOWN!!! If you REALLY want to write a screenplay, you have to have the motivation from within! Nick's book gives you that motivation! If you want to be more than just a talker or a wannabe, sit your butt on the chair right now and get to work! Buy Nick's book, read it, and follow his principles! I guarantee you, if you stick with it and persevere, you'll have a written screenplay! If you don't, then find something else to do because Nick's approach works and it's fullproof! There's no crap in it and there's nothing complicated about what it says! It's very straightforward! It's given me the start of a lifetime's worth of screenwriting and for that, I consider myself most fortunate and most blessed! After you've read Nick's book, then turn to McKee, Field, Snyder, and Trottier! You can't take on advanced concepts and techniques until you know and understand the basics and have used them through practice! I just finished with Nick's class and already, I'm starting work on screenplay number 2. Am I an expert? Hell, no, but I've got a start and I already have one screenplay under my belt; and that's 100% more than people who just talk about writing their "magnum opus"!
Where do you want to take your writing? Only you can answer that. If you're like me and you REALLY want to write a screenplay, then buy this book! It's worth more than its cost and if you stick with it and just do it, you, too, can realize your dreams of actually writing a screenplay! When you've actually gotten a completed first draft in front of you, you've won the lottery, and that's enough motivation to dive into script number 2!
I read this book in a few sittings on my and I will surely read it again when I sit down to write my first screenplay.
